San Diego, Day One


Here's what I have so far from Day One on the San Diego Comic Convention. It's a lot of stuff. I know I don't have everything, and will continue to add as I can......

CAPTAIN AMERICA'S COSTUME FOR THE AVENGERS MOVIE

THE SIXTH GUN MINI SERIES
Syfy to do six episode mini series based on Oni's The Sixth Gun. An offical announcement will be made later. "During the darkest days of the Civil War, wicked cutthroats came into possession of six pistols of otherworldly power. In time the Sixth Gun, the most dangerous of the weapons, vanished. When the gun surfaces in the hands of an innocent girl, dark forces reawaken. Vile men thought long dead set their sights on retrieving the gun and killing the girl. Only Drake Sinclair, a gunfighter with a shadowy past, stands in their way.

MAN OF STEEL RELEASE DATE PUSHED BACK
The Man of Steel's release date has been moved from December 2012 to June 2013. Tarantino's "Django Unchained," Disney's "Lone Ranger," and "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" are scheduled to be relased that month. Only Iron Man 3 has a set in stone date of May 3, but THOR 2 is scheduled for a summer 2013 release as well.

WOLVERINE IS A GO
Hugh Jackman talking to a group of fans oustide confirmed that Wolverine will start shooting in October. He also said parts of the film will be shot in Japan and that he's been wanting to do an adaptation of the Chris Claremont/Frank Miller mini series from the 1980's since the first X-Men movie. Silver Samurai will be the villain.

AFRO SAMURAI - LIVE
Live-Action Afro Samurai co-produced by Samuel Jackson in the works. Filming starts in 2012. Afro Saurai takes place in a feudal Japan of the future, with the lead character on the hunt for vengeance against the man who took his father's life.

THE LEGION AND THE CREW OF THE ENTERPRISE - TOGETHER?
DC/IDW join forces to bring you Star Trek/Legion of Super Heroes - a six issue mini series. It's written by Chris Roberson (the "Grounded" story arc in Superman) with pencils by Jeffery Moy and inks by his brother, Phillip Moy.

DC NOTES:
Wonder Woman in her series IS NOT wearing pants. The Captain Marvel family will return in the next big wave of DCnU comics. The first story arcs of Action and Justice League happened five years ago. Didio on why no Batman/Superman book, "We're establishing them seperately first, then it's something we might revisit down the line." Interesting quote from Grant Morrison - "Batman, only two people died in his life and he's been sad ever since. Superman lost billions and still has a smile on his face."

MARVEL NOTES:
After a almost three year break, Marvel announced the Twelve will start back. Expect #9 in February. Heroes for Hire ending, being replaced by…Villains for Hire? Expect a series of one-shots called Avengers: Origins. Ant-Man and Wasp, Luke Cage, Vision, Thor and Scarlet Witch & quicksilver start off in November. Avengers Academy relocating to the West Coast and will accept members from Runaways, Initiative members and "loners" (what, no Young Allies?); Black Panther: The Most Dangerous Man Alive in November battling… The Kingpin? Spider-Man and X-Men comics will follow DC's lead and do same-day digital/print releases

MISC NOTES:
Archie meets the rock group KISS in Archie #627. The band come to Riverdale and helps the teens battle monsters and zombies. The rock group will also have a comic released by IDW Publishing. IDW is also publishing a new Popeye comic with an all-star creative team. More info in a day or so… UPDATE - IDW announced "Frankenstein Alive, Alive" by Steve Niles (30 Days of Night) and Bernie Wrightson (Frankenstein, Swamp Thing). IDW has also announced they will do James O'Barr's THE CROW as well.

MORE NEWS - Robert Rodriguez in his panel says that Sin City two should start film later on this year at the earliest. It's been six years since the original came out. One of the titles that they may use is The Long Bad Night. The script comprises of two new stories, plus the story arc A Dame to Kill For. Rodriguez is also announced he's teaming with the Frank Frazetta estate to produce a live-action version of the animated 1983 movie Fire & Ice. The film maker also announced he's obtained the rights to do another Heavy Metal movie.
