Eddie Murphy is Hong Kong Phooey?

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Eddie Murphy has signed on to play to play the title character in the animated/live action mixed movie. According to the article, Penry (Murphy) is given mystic powers which gives him the ability to walk on hind legs, talk and is a kung fu fighter.

In the 70's cartoon, Penry (voiced by the late Scatman Crothers) was a janitor in a police station and ...well, not so much a successful hero. No word on if his sidekick cat Spot will be in the movie.

Do I really have to say anything about this? Didn't think so.
