Disney has put a halt to the production of the Lone Ranger movie, or as I call it Tonto with a special guest appearance by Lone Ranger. The reason, according to
Deadline, is the production costs have ballooned to almost $250 million. With the studio already shelling out $300 million for John Carter and another $200 for Sam Raimi's Great and Powerful OZ, something had to give. Of course this is the same director and star (Gore Verbinski and Johnny Depp) that made a ton of money for the mouse with the Pirates movies. The last Pirates film broke the $1 billion mark so this seems a little confusing.
The film, slated for a December 2012 released focus on Tonto (Depp) while the Lone Ranger (Armie Hammer) was portrayed as a western version of Don Quixote. I was interested in this movie until I heard the premise. I'd rather see the Mad Max version of Zorro (which I
reported on back in April) that this.....
