The LA Times is reporting that Universal might bring back the H.G. Wells classic to the big screen. The intention is to expand the lore, but keep it a period piece. They apparently want to do something similar to the recent Sherlock Holmes films starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. Writer-director David Goyer (the Blade trilogy, Chris Nolan's Batman trilogy, the upcoming Superman reboot: Man of Steel) is involved in the project...
“It’s period but it’s a reinvention of the character in the sort of way that Stephen Sommers exploded ‘The Mummy’ into a much bigger kind of mythology. That’s kind of what we’ve done with ‘The Invisible Man. We did some pre-vis tests and things like that that they were very happy with. Now we’re going through the casting process. if they get the right lead, they’ll make it.”
So, do you want a period, action-adventure Invisible Man film? Sounds intriguing, but I hope they don't forget the science and horror aspects as well.
