Simon, along with Jack Kirby, created Captain America for Timely Comics (now known as Marvel Comics) in 1940. The duo also created The Sandman, Manhunter, and The Boy Commandos for DC Comics. His influence (as well as Kirby's) is still felt in the industry to this day. Simon was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1999.
