Variety is reporting that Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter's Labratory, The Powerpuf Girls, and Samurai Jack) has signed on to do a 3D animated film of POPEYE with Avi and Ari Arad producing along with Sony Pictures Animation. This will mark the first the spinach eating sailor hits the big screen since the 1980 musical starring Robin Williams and Shelly Duvall.
Tartakovsky's most recent film, Hotel Transylvania; a 3D animated comedy featuring the voices of Adam Sandler, Kevin James, and David Spade will hit theaters September 21. He is also currently working with Cartoon Network to create a feature version of Samurai Jack.
