Bob Kelsey, the reporter who seems to always end up on the wrong side of the supernatural, was given his first outing by Cy Dethan (Cancertown, Cancertown 2, White Knuckle) in the comic one shot The Immaculate Abortion of Dina Leigh.
Cy took Kelsey, originally written as a minor character in Barry Nugent’s modern day pulp adventure novel Fallen Heroes, and expanded his role, revealing what the character was up to following the events of the novel.
“After reading the final script from Cy and the eventual comic, I realised that there was a great opportunity to tell some short solo stories with Bob and so the idea of Bob Kelsey Investigates was born,” explains Barry.
Bob Kelsey Investigates is a standalone web comic, released for free via the Unseen Shadows website and other digital outlets. To those who people have yet to read the novel and are unsure about reading the comic Barry had this to say.“Yes there is more to be gained if you have if you have read Fallen Heroes, but the beauty of this web comic, like the other Unseen Shadows project, is that it will be standalone.”
First out of the gate will be a two pager called Neck on the Line by Unseen Shadows newcomers Virgil Yendell (writer) and James Evans (Artist/Letterer). The story sees Bob recounting his latest supernatural misadventure over a drink, or three. The comic is available to read on the Unseen Shadows website now, with a second story already in development by Richmond Clements, Roy Huteson Stewart and Paul Mclaren.
