Richie is not your average actor and leads a double life. Sapolsky was inspired by real world Hollywood residents when writing the character. “[In Los Angeles] many people are actors trying to break in. It's not rare to go to a restaurant and have waiters and waitresses who are actors and that kinda play a role when they serve you,” explained Sapolsky. “The idea of an actor who goes to the dark side and really become a hitman started to grow in my mind.”
Despite constantly being in different locations (often different hemispheres) Sapolsky and Olivetti worked well as collaborators. “Ariel is the best, he's amazing and super-fast too. He understands immediately how to do justice to a script. His art is quite unique on the market, no one draws like he does,” said Sapolsky. “I'm incredibly lucky that he not only agreed to work with me but also that he liked and supported the project all along. I provided him full scripts, he'd send me quick sketches, we'd talk about it then he'd go straight to final pages. And you could imagine that not living in the same country would be a problem, but it has never been an issue for us. I wrote the series between Paris and New York and for both locations, the time difference with Buenos Aires isn't really a big issue.”
ONE-HIT WONDER is Sapolsky’s first creator-owned book and Olivetti’s first international creator-owned series. “Image is the place to be for creators," added Sapolsky. "It was our first and only choice for that book.”
ONE-HIT WONDER #1 is the first of five issues in this new series and hits stores on February 26, 2014 for $3.50. Pre-orders can be placed using Diamond Code DEC130493.
