ComixTribe Celebrates 100,000 Comics Distributed Milestone

ComixTribe, a Diamond distributed publisher of comics and graphic novels, announced today that it has passed the 100,000 comics distributed through the direct market milestone. To commemorate that achievement, the three-year-old imprint, ComixTribe has released a 60+ pageSUMMER PREVIEW, featuring pages from upcoming releases including AND EMILY WAS GONE, EPIC, THE STANDARD and more.

"It's been an incredible week for ComixTribe," said publisher Tyler James.

Last Saturday, ComixTribe released two Free Comic Book Day books, SCAM #0: Crosswords and EPIC #0: Pilot, which together accounted for more than half of the 100,000 number. ComixTribe creators signed at several FCBD events around the country, including Jetpack Comics, Forbidden Plantet NYC, and Larry's Wonderful World of Comics.

Then, on Wednesday, ComixTribe released its first new series of 2014, with EPIC #1 immediately selling through its stock at Diamond, and getting a 10% flash reorder to fill back-orders from retailers. "Clearly, offering the EPIC pilot issue on FCBD has driven larger than anticipated interest in the series. We anticipated it, though," said James, who writes EPIC.

And on Friday, ComixTribe ended a successful Kickstarter campaign to fund a hardcover version of THE RED TEN Volume 1. (The softcover trade collection will be out in the direct market later this summer.) "We can't thank our fans and readers enough for supporting our books," said THE RED TEN co-creator and artist Cesar Feliciano.

Next Up: Mastering the Monthly
"We're incredibly grateful for the support we've received from the direct market and from our readers. Free Comic Book Day has been a tremendous opportunity to reach new fans," said Editor-In-Chief Steven Forbes. "That said, we're always looking ahead to the next book, and the next challenge."

For ComixTribe, that next challenge is delivering a book on a monthly schedule, one they'll tackle with AND THEN EMILY WAS GONE, a critically-hailed horror series by John Lees (The Standard) and Iain Laurie (Horror Mountain) featuring variant covers by some of the hottest artists in comics. The five issue mini-series will begin in July, and run through November.

"One hundred thousand comics, any way you slice it, is a lot of #$%ing books," says SCAM creator and ComixTribe Creative Director Joe Mulvey. "For a small, bootstrapped young publisher, we at ComixTribe love to think and play big. I guess we don't know any better."
