Captain America had the best opening weekend (in America) of all the comic book movies released this year. It took in an estimated $65.8 million, besting THOR by $100,000 in 240 FEWER screens. Impressive. The expectation was between the $55.1 million take by X-Men: First Class and THOR's $65.7 million.
Harry Potter suffered a 72% drop off (WOW!) for it's second week, but still pulled in $48.1 million. Friends with Benefits debuted at #3 with $17.7 million. Transformers: Dark of the Moon is #4 ($12 mill) and Horrible Bosses rounds out the top 5 at $11.7 million.
Captain America was great. It's easily in my top five best super hero movies ever. So glad to see it do well...here. Now it will be interesting to see how it's doing around the world.
Will Cap hold on to #1 next week with the debut of Cowboys and Aliens (which is getting good buzz as well)? I dunno. We'll see....
