During a panel at Empire's Big Screen festival/convention in London, writer/director Terry Gilliam said he turned down the chance to direct a remake of the 1939 classic The Wizard of OZ. The reason? According to Bleeding Cool, he said that film was "fine."
I'm kinda torn on this. On one hand, it's good because I think remakes, re-imaginings, and reboots are getting WAY out of hand. However, I would really love to see what he would do with the OZ universe. I'm a big fan of Time Bandits and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, and the OZ tale is just as quirky as those stories are.
Gilliam is currently working on A Liar's Autobiography - The True Story of Monty Python's Graham Chapman.
