My Name is Q, just Q

Sorry for the lack of updates regarding the next James Bond film. My bad. Daniel Craig is returning to play Bond for a third time. He is joined by a pretty impressive cast: Javier Bardem, Dame Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Berenice Marlohe, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney and Ben Whishaw. The last name is the one I wanted to point out because it has been confirmed that the actor will be the new Q, the head of Q branch where 007 gets all of his spy toys. Winshaw is best know for being in the movie PERFUME, but also played Keith Richards in STONED, and in the film LAYER CAKE starring...Daniel Craig.

The character Q was previously played by Desmond Llewlyn until his death in 1999. Llewlyn was in every James Bond film from FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE (1963) to THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH (1999) with two exceptions: LIVE AND LET DIE (1973) and NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN (1983 - granted it's a non-canon film, really a remake of THUNDERBALL).

What is interesting is they are apparently switching the Q/007 dynamic. Previously, it was Q the straight-laced authority being not too taken seriously by the hip 007. Since they went with a actor younger than Craig, it seems they are going for a 007 who would blow off this snot-nosed brainiac.

The film, titled SKYFALL, is currently being filmed for a November 9, 2012 release.
