Gaming Takes Classrooms to the Next Level

Pop Culture Classroom (PCC), a Denver-based education nonprofit, will take part in a classroom gamification panel at New York Comic Con, October 6-9, 2016 at the Javits Center in New York City.

Gamification of the Classroom: Taking Classroom Fun to the Next Level with Gaming will suggest unique game ideas for teachers to take and try in their classrooms to promote student engagement. The panel will include ways for teachers to build gamified incentives and grading systems around their goals and assessments.

“Often, as teachers, we provide solo instruction to our students behind closed doors. The Gamification of the Classroom panel hopes to give fellow nerdy educators the chance to come together, develop skillsets, and enrich the classroom experience for all our students,” said Illya Kowalchuk, Director of Education at Pop Culture Classroom.

This panel of teachers and industry professionals includes Illya Kowalchuk (Pop Culture Classroom), Eric Kallenborn, Jason Nisavic and Ronell Whitaker (Comics Education Offensive founders and high school classroom teachers). It will be moderated by Lys Galati. They will offer valuable advice on how to not only design gamified units and lessons, but also provide the tools necessary to effectively implement them in a classroom environment.

Gamification of the Classroom will take place on October 6 from 2:45-3:45 p.m. in room 1B03 of the Javits Center in New York City.
